My Grandmother came in this morning, and will be staying until next weekend. Now, I haven't seen her since before my surgery, and she says to me this afternoon:
"Jenn, I had no idea you were so big (as she giggles her arms, implying that my fat arms giggle). I used to tell people you were thin with big boobs, but I can see I was wrong."
Thanks Grandmother. Thanks alot.

Once I was visiting my grandma. I stood in the driveway for a while just talking to my dad before I came in to say hello to everyone else. When I came into the house I hugged her and she said, "Oh, was that you talking outside? I wondered who the fat lady was your dad was talking to." She said it in front of my ENTIRE family. Everyone laughed...at my expense. I was embarrassed, to say the least. I am sharing this with in because I think it's a generational thing. My grandmother is almost 96 (this incident was at least 10 years ago) but I think people of that generation just speak their minds regardless of how hurtful or unkind their words may be. I know my grandmother wasn't trying to be hurtful, which is why I didn't get upset with her, she just didn't fully think about the consequences her words would have. If your grandmother said this in front of your kids, use it as a lesson on speaking the truth IN LOVE. The rule in our is that people can say something if it is kind, truthful, and necessary. If it is none of those, than it shouldn't be said aloud.
Enjoy the rest of your visit! :)

I am trying to get kids in bed for their naps, Taylor Ann is screaming, and Teagan is annoying T.G. so that is why some of my sentences are not complete. =)
Oh Good Grief!! I Hate when old people DO That!!
Hubby's mom does that and so did my Dads girlfriend...
Pisses me Off to no End!
But I Always stop 'em dead in their tracks!
"Why do you say such ugly things???"
They do it because people let them get by with it...Being Old is NOT an Excuse to be hateful!
You're Beautiful...forget about it!
hughughugs
Terra ~ she said it in front of my aunt and mom...I don't think the kids were in the room...but, I didn't let it stop me from throwing on my suit and jumping in the pool...a year ago, it might have stopped me, but not now.
Donna ~ I am just glad I have a thicker skin and more confidence these days...and, I am not the only one she is being mean too, so that helps, too :)
Oh girl, my grandma use to do this to me to know end. It's hard to be respectfulto ur elders when this happens, eh?
Crystal ~ tell me about it!
My mom says things like that to me. I am finally able to ignore it, but for years I let it sink in to my heart and soul. I am so sorry she would say something so hurtful. I support you! I had a breast reduction surgery as well. It was over 5 years ago now. I know what you mean about it giving some confidence but not much. I wanted to pop over and say thank you for coming to my weight loss blog. I am following yours now. I'll have to catch up on where you have been so far in your journey, but I know we can do it! I have a weekly meme for motivation and encouragement called Motivation Monday if you are interested. I'd love for you to join me.
ps, is that an elephant background? It kinda looks like a close up. It looks freakin' cool whatever it is. :0) I'm so glad you found me!
jeannette ~ one of the first things you should know about me is I have an elephant addiction of sorts...I collect them...have about 300 right now, and I am always looking for more!
